RENEW Training, Education and Courses

RENEW runs courses and workshops in the garden throughout spring, summer and autumn.  During the winter we use indoor facilities close to the garden.   Shared meals are often a feature of the events giving everyone a chance to make new pals and learn a few new recipes.

Camping is available within the garden or we can arrange accomodation at local hotels and B&Bs.

February 2012

11th & 12th Feb. The Vegetable Garden Explored.

Investigating the soil and maintaining fertility. Planning the year. What to grow and when to sow. Growing for a year round supply.


18th Feb. Growing Fruit Trees.

Choosing varieties and pollinating partners. Site aspects and planting. Pruning and maintenance.


25th Feb.  Practical Hedge Laying.

Laying a mixed hedge, cutting and staking.


March 2012

10th, 11th, 17th and 18th March. Garden Design.

An in depth exploration of the principals and practice of garden design, covering planning, scale drawing, soft and hard landscaping etc.


April 2012

7th April. Wild Food Walk.

Recognising edible plants and how to use them in the kitchen.


14th April. Garden maintenance.

Controlling pests and diseases. Compost making. Making liquid feeds. Maintaining fertility.


May 2012

5th & 6th May.  Dry Stone Walling. (Venue in Nantmel).

A practical, hands on exploration of dry stone wall building.


August 2012

11th August. Plant Propagation.

How to propagate plants, including sowing seed, taking cuttings, layering and
bud grafting fruit trees.


25th August.  Protected cropping.

How to use plant protection methods to extend the growing season, protect against
pests and grow winter crops.


All courses 10am to 4pm. Tea and coffee provided.
