Volunteering with the RENEW Walled Garden Project
 
Meet friends and influence the environment by joining our happy band of volunteers!
People of all ages, shapes and sizes can find something to utilize their skills including garden maintenence, helping organise the events, fruit and vegetable growing, harvesting, restoration of the buildings and walls, publicity, secretarial & bookeeping, catering and, of course, enjoying the social events.
Some volunteers choose to have their own allotment plot at the garden and can benefit from seed and plant sharing or swapping produce and gardening tips. Others help out at the Open Days or lend a hand on the guided walks and training courses. Some come along for the social events or perhaps to help put up (and take down for the winter!) our large summer marquee and everyone enjoys the festivities such as our annual Harvest Picnic or Christmas Party.

New Pond Project.
Help Wanted – burn off those festive calories!
Just before Christmas, RENEW secured a small grant for developing the dip pool in the walled garden into a more wildlife and people friendly pond surrounded by a path and ornamental planting area.
We are hiring a mini digger to pull out old tree stumps and do the heavy work, but we need to clear the area before the digger gets there and make the pond and path etc. after the digger has done it’s part.
Time is short for this project as we have to finish it by early March to satisfy the grant terms. The RENEW management team would welcome some help with this project and we have set aside some weekends in January and February to get on with the job.
Anybody interested in helping please contact us or just turn up at the walled garden on any of the days listed below. 10am onwards. Tea and Coffee provided.

Official Walled Garden Work Days for 2011
1st Sunday of every other month, 10am onward.
1) February 6th
2) April 17th
3) June 25th
4) August 7th
5) October 2nd
6) December 4th
The area of grass that covers the bottom half of the garden needs cutting regularly (every 2 weeks or so) during summer.
